Scientists may use a special instrument to identify an unknown molecule (to catch a criminal). In our lab, we use a home-built molecular beam mass-analyzed laser spectrometer to record molecular mass and spectra to identify molecular species and its vibrational motions. In this poster, we will demonstrate how to measure the molecular mass (the weight of a person), spectra (fingerprints of a person), and vibrational motions of a sandwich-typed chemical compound.
