The COVID-19 pandemic has lead to more than 6 million death globally and profoundly changed how
we live our lives. Yet such a pronounced impact is all due to microscopic viruses whose size is
measured in nanometers. While viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza virus and African swine
fever continuously make headlines, numerous other viruses exist in the human population and
nature that may potentially impact our health and economy. What exactly is a virus? How can we
as a species defend ourselves against this small yet destructive presence? This event will bring
you on a journey to explore the diverse world of viruses, what we can do about them, and the
potential to turn them to our side to cure other diseases.
