Watch online : Wanted molecule, freeze! I will catch you by using your weight and fingerprint
Scientists may use a special instrument (mass spectrometer) to measure the mass of a molecule (molecular mass). For some molecules with the same mass, scientists can record molecular spectra (fingerprints) to identify molecular species. In our lab, we use a home-built molecular beam mass-analyzed laser spectrometer to record molecular mass and spectra to identify molecular species and to detect its motions. In this presentation, we will demonstrate how to measure molecular mass, spectra, and vibrations of a sandwich compound.
