    After a year of anticipation, the finest science carnival in Taiwan -- Academia Sinica Open House -- is ready to go! This year will be the first time that all activities take place online, so you can watch popular science talks and learn about our latest research without having to leave the comfort of your home.
    Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, all Academia Sinica Open House activities will be hosted on the Internet, allowing people to take part from home. In addition, this year’s Open House will last for four days spanning two weekends: October 30-31 and November 6-7. Hundreds of events, including dozens of talks in the fields of mathematical sciences, life sciences, and human and social sciences will allow visitors to interact with researchers online. For our eagerly anticipated Keynote Speeches, six humanities and social sciences researchers from the recently published book Reflections on COVID-19 will provide different perspectives on how the pandemic has impacted human society. Videos of these Keynote Speeches will be made available on our website.
    In addition, participation in events with limited seating will be made available through a ticket lottery. In order to save people the hassle of trying to grab a limited number of tickets, activities requiring advance registration will require signing up during a designated time period, and tickets will be given out according to lottery. Don’t be upset if you missed out -- there are still nearly a hundred online events with unlimited seats!
    This year Academia Sinica is also launching a prize drawing to encourage more visitors and students to participate. During the Open House events, collect “stamps” through participation and make sure that you fulfill all requirements to enter the drawing and win elegant prizes. After taking part in events, students may also apply for a certificate of achievement.
    The Academia Sinica Open House website will be launched on September 23 (Thursday), with activity previews and event registration available October 4-15. Be sure to visit our website and subscribe as a member to check out all the events you wish to take part in, and then save or export them to your Google Calendar.
