Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be applied not only in natural resource management, land-use planning, urban governance, and academic research, but also can be integrated with technologies on mobile devices such as electronic maps, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Location-Based Services (LBS), and Augmented Reality (AR) to create urban exploration games.
In 2024, Taiwan's So-net company launched the latest mobile game "TAIPEI12elve," a map-based virtual idol (Vidol) music development game centered around various locations in Taiwan. During this open campus event, six virtual checkpoints have been set up within the Academia Sinica Nangang campus. Players can visit the actual locations to check in and collect points, or use their camera to display the virtual idol in AR.
Staffs will provide guidance on how to install and play the mobile game, as well as offer insights into the spatial information technologies used in the game's development. Participants who download the game (for ages 12 and up) and complete the learning sheet will receive a small gift. Additionally, those who visit any of the virtual checkpoints within the Academia Sinica campus, take a photo using the AR camera, and upload it to the designated post on the "TP12" Facebook fan page. This gives them a chance to participate in the draw for exclusive prizes!
