Spacetime, an important concept proposed by Einstein in his Theory of relativity, lays the foundation for our understanding of the universe in the 21st Century. In this activity, we use elastic fabric to mimic the warping effects of spacetime, for observing impact gravity has on spacetime might look like. The kids can try throwing marbles along the plane of the elastic cloth to experience the fun of controlling the movement and direction of the marbles (think the marbles as spacecrafts). It's fun to try and see if one can replicate the orbit that the Apollo spacecraft travelled when it flew around the moon. In fact, the same principle can be used when spacecraft travels to Mars or to the outer part of our Solar system!
