The popular science seminar will introduce the coronavirus infection to humans, pathogenesis, and transmission between humans from the biology perspective. From the public health perspective, the best measures to control the spread of this infectious virus, while maintaining the health care system viable and accessible to those who need medical care. To best confront the COVID-19 pandemic, leadership from the government have to prepare and better manage all the necessary medical resources to protect our people from the loss of their life and properties. Based on the urgency to control the COVID-19 outbreaks, we need sufficient coverage of face mask, diagnostics for the virus and antibodies, therapeutic medicines, and ultimately the preventive vaccines. We need to best use the existing knowledge and technology, software, and hardware facilities to manufacture all necessary medical supplies to slow down the coronavirus spread. Because COVID-19 is a novel disease, we also have to learn more about the virus and create new diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines from scratch. These necessary medical devices and medicines must be effective and safe in quality and shall be supplied as soon as possible in sufficient quantity until the COVID-19 is eradicated from human society. This seminar will emphasize the updated development of diagnostics and vaccines for COVID-19, as well as project the future after vaccines are available.
