The indigenous languages in Taiwan belong to the Austronesian Family, and their phonetic and phonological traits are fairly different from Chinese languages such as Mandarin, Southern Min, and Hakka. This poster will introduce major phonetic and phonological features in Formosan languages, focusing on those that are distinct from Chinese and revealing the great diversity of language sounds in Taiwan.
