Taiwan is a multicultural and multi-linguistic society. We can divide language contact into two types: it can occur between speakers of different ethnic groups or because of the introduction of a “foreign” language. Language contact is related to language change, which includes: (i) phonetic/phonological changes, (ii) morphosyntactic changes, (iii) semantic changes. In this talk, we will discuss how the recognition of loans can be established and how language contact may influence certain aspects of language.
