
The Center for Asia-Pacific Area Studies has prepared five presentations that will dive into the complexities of cultural exchange. The presentations will be approximately 15-20 minutes long, accompanied by stories and explanations of each image. A short and easy quiz with 5-8 questions (depending on the available remaining time) will follow. Winners will be rewarded with a special gift designed for this event.

Pirates, 1690 – 1720”
Have you ever wanted to be a pirate? Have you ever imagined yourself sailing the Seven Seas
attacking treasure ships and becoming filthy rich? This talk will introduce you to history’s
most successful pirates, the Indian Ocean sea dogs of the early eighteenth century. They captured a
lot of treasure, but also faced enormous challenges when they ruled the Indian Seas. Come and hear
their exciting, blood-soaked story!
