We will have some demonstrations and activities on seismology for the visitors during the open house. The topics include 1. How earth crust deforms?, 2. How seismic waves propagate?, 3. How building responses to ground motions? and 4. How to use seismology to explore resources and for natural conservations? These topics are the interests of my lab because we have been using seismic methods to study how earthquake ruptures, how to reduce the seismic hazards, how to find gas hydrate under the seabed, and how to use seismology to study groundwater resources. Each activity will last less than 5 minutes, but we hope to provide visitors some direct insights on the physics of the earthquake, and have fun. The activity is targeted to a wide range of participants, from elementary school to high school students, and adults. The ideas of these activities are mainly from the website of Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS; https://www.iris.edu/hq/#).
